Stuart Hampson's Biography
Sir Stuart Hampson was Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership for 14 years. Under his leadership the partnership went from strength to strength and recorded record profits.
A popular and likeable businessman, Sir Stuart joined the partnership in February 1982 following a twelve year career in the Civil Service. During 14 years at John Lewis Sir Stuart presided over a programme of modernisation. The partnership’s 2006 results saw pre-tax profits hit a new high of £319m, up 27 per cent on the previous year. He was also instrumental in developing Waitrose into one of the UK’s leading brands.
Sir Stuart Hampson champions the benefits of employee engagement in business. He chaired a team tackling economic renewal in deprived communities, and is one of the Prince of Wales’s ambassadors in this area. Sir Stuart talks on topics including leadership, employee confidence, outstanding customer service, corporate turnaround and employee satisfaction and motivation amongst others.
