Unattached to email
Luke Johnson is disillusioned with email in the latest edition of Management Today. Luke is beginning to think it is not a positive advance in communication. While high volumes of correspondence might appear more efficient, is it better quality?
Abusive feedback and angry posts on forums – two manifestations of the id Luke feels email brings out in ordinary, civilised people. And, in business, email exchanges can escalate into full-blown and irrevocable boardroom crises, which would have been avoided by talking face-to-face.
As such, Luke is keen to phone more and email less. Email is too robotic; for the transferral of information this is fine, but for anything more, the spoken word is required.
Luke Johnson a business speaker on many different topics: the media, British entrepreneurship, leadership to name a few.
