Inspirational speaker Susie Wolff makes F1 history

F1 test driver and inspirational speaker Susie Wolff made F1 history after becoming the first woman for 22 years to take part in a Formula One weekend. As the sixth woman to have taken part overall, she rolled a Williams out of the garage at the start of first practice session for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

However, Susie’s big moment became a minor detail all too quickly when her Williams suffered mechanical failure. An oil-pressure problem cut the engine off, forcing her to pull out after only 20 minutes.

Drawing on the positives, Susie commented that: “I had so much support out there, and for that I’m very thankful…I had a good feeling out there in the car and I was looking forward to it. It turned out to be a very short run, but I have to keep my head up and look forward to Hockenheim. I felt very ready for today; the team had done a fantastic job of preparing me.”

Susie went on to add that it “was also inspirational for women. I made it out on to the track, but I have to show I can do a lot more than just drive in the car for one lap. I want to show I’m quick enough in Formula One.”
