Viv Groskop's Biography
Viv Groskop is a keynote speaker, comedian, author, columnist and media presenter who has spent more than a decade empowering individuals. She is considered one of the UK’s most successful freelance journalists and enjoys showing and sharing her love for journalism through speaking engagements where she teaches people, particularly women, how to demystify and deconstruct the art of public speaking and conquer interpersonal communication.
Viv is the host of How to Own the Room, an inspirational podcast where women from all walks of life share insightful tips and explain the secrets of excellent public speaking; the podcast is applauded for its wisdom and realism. She is also the We Can Rebuild Her host, a podcast series specifically built for the post-pandemic era. The podcast covers riveting conversations regarding reinvention, transformation, and perseverance.
Viv has written multiple plays for BBC Radio 4, like; Three Weeks, a depiction of three friends trying to reconcile their opposing views on feminism and infertility while on a weekend getaway and the sequel, What He Would Have Wanted, following up with the friends during the pandemic. She has also written about a powerful woman attempting to change the election system in A Fair Shot and the highly popular, Read the Room, about an actress who encounters a powerful man in a hotel room.
As a comedian, Viv has been a pioneer for other females in the industry, using her humour as a tool to help them connect. In 2012, she was a finalist on Funny Women and a semi-finalist on So You Think You’re Funny. She has headlined numerous one-woman comedy specials, including, Vivalicious, Anchorwoman, Be More Margo, Say Sorry to the Lady and the renowned I Laughed, I Cried.
As a frequent BBC Radio 4 contributor, she also provided satirical documentaries like It’s Just a Joke, Comrade and L’origine de L’Origine du monde.
Viv is the author of several acclaimed books like Lift as You Climb (2020), I Laughed, I Cried (2013) and the bestselling How to Own the Room (2018). She also draws on her linguist skills with publications like Au Revoir, Tristesse (2020) and The Anna Karenina Fix (2017).
As a journalist, Viv has made frequent contributions to several publications and media outlets such as; The Guardian, The Observer, Daily Mail, Evening Standard, Red magazine and Mail on Sunday. She’s provided blog material on Poldark, Downtown Abbey, Strictly Come Dancing and Indian Summers for The Guardian. A fluent Russian speaker, she has contributed editorials for Russian Vogue and conducted interviews in Russian and French.
