Trevor Abrahmsohn's Biography
Trevor Abrahmsohn is CEO of The Glentree Group, a luxury property consultancy firm.
Trevor founded Glentree Estates in 1976 as a formative and progressive estate agency practice with its catchment area to include Mayfair, Regents Park, St John’s Wood, Hampstead, Kenwood, and Highgate. In 1986, he floated Glentree PLC on the USM as Founder and CEO. Shares launched November 1986 at 16p and by April 1987 were £4.50 (one of the fastest moving shares on the USM) with a market cap of £65million (which equates to approximately £200million in 2017). The Directors bought shares at the issue price and any money raised by the flotation was for working capital purposes.
Glentree PLC acquired a number of synergic companies to include: Anthony Green & Spencer (commercial estate agents), Goldschmidt & Howland (residential estate agents), Ramon Green’s Spencer Group (to include: Spencer Construction, Spencer Developments etc.) which built the Pied Bull Yard development and Bloomsbury Plaza, both in Bloomsbury (combined total value of £60million).
During the Recession of the 90’s it was necessary to reduce the 17 lenders to 3, in order to re-capitalise the company. The name of the company was changed from Glentree PLC to Union Square PLC and brokers were Smith Newcourt. The late Mark McCormack of IMG, bought a 30% stake in the company when it was transformed into a golf management and ownership vehicle, before it was finally privatised in 1992.
Glentree Estates created Glentree International in 1992 to reflect its global reach and presided over some of the largest sales in London which exceeded world records at the time, i.e. St John’s Lodge, Regents Park (£50million,1993), Toprak Mansion, The Bishops Avenue (£51million, 2008), Palladio (Compton Avenue, £34million), (Witanhurst, Highgate (£50million, 2008), 18-19 Kensington Palace Gardens ( $100million, 2004, Bernie Ecclestone to Lakshmi Mittal).
Later in 1998, Glentree New Homes was founded which currently presides over 30 new residential development schemes across the north west London corridor.
In 2000, Trevor became the Board Director of Primelocation.com which was sold to DMGT in 2005 for £48million. He was also the Joint Founder and Chairman of agent’s collective REAP (Residential Estate Agents Publisher) which created Fabric, a much-accredited property, glossy lifestyle magazine, with 50 residential estate agent shareholders. This is the equivalent to CLEA/London Magazine (another residential estate agents venture) which covers the central to southerly regions of London.
More recently, Trevor founded OnTheMarket.com (OTM) and by 2018, OTM was floated as a £100million public company and a strong rival to the incumbents Rightmove and Zoopla.
Turning base metal into gold is a hobby for him. His ‘MO’ is to psychologically find out what makes people tick, and then help them ‘to get out of their own way’ His simple, yet effective clues to solving problems is unique, homespun, and effective.
He is the Houdini of the tangled knot and somehow makes formally intractable problems perfectly soluble with his well-honed techniques.
‘Finding the angle’ is the bedrock of his ethos and if you have a problem to solve in life, maybe, Trevor can show you how!
Trevor was a 2017 recipient of Spears Wealth Management Lifetime Achievement Award as well as the LonRes lifetime achievement award.
