Sophie Williams's Biography
Sophie Williams is an author, activist, TED speaker, and expert on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Sophie is the Founder of the successful Instagram page, @OfficialMillennialBlack, where she has built up a large following of 160k + individuals engaged in tackling racial injustice. On the page, Sophie shares content on how to be anti-racist and an ally, and shares news/commentary on current affairs and events.
Sophie has authored two books, Millennial Black (2021) and Anti-Racist Ally (2020). She also regularly contributes to media publications such as Bustle, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Glamour, Grazia, The Guardian, Marie Claire and Refinery29, among others.
She is widely considered a leading voice on diversity, inclusion and Allyship and works for several businesses in the UK as an Intersectional Equity Consultant.
As a speaker, Sophie shows audiences how to take the first steps on their own journey to activism or allyship. She encourages people to build on their existing foundations and demonstrates how to truly build equality into both their personal and working lives. Sophie regularly appears on expert panels, delivers talks and works as a consultant for clients from a range of sectors, including Amazon, Apple, Barclays, Cambridge University, Google, Meta, the NHS, The Rio Ferdinand Foundation, Sky, and the UK Civil Service.
Sophie began her career in advertising, and held the positions of COO and CFO. She was the former Global Manager of Production Planning at Netflix – until she left in Spring 2021 after leading the European employee walkout in protest of transphobic content.
