Shirley Yu's Biography
Dr. Shirely Yu is a pragmatic economist on China and a keynote speaker at leading Think Tanks including: The Chatham House, Asia Society, the Wilson Center, Harvard Kennedy School and the London School of Economics. She was China’s National Television News Anchor for China Central Television News (CCTV) and frequently speaks on topics regarding China’s political economy and its geopolitical role.
She holds a PhD in Political Economy from China’s Peking University, and a Master’s degree in Government from Harvard University. She has participated in numerous public lectures discussing China’s policy, and has been a moderator of dialogues with global icons such as Alan Greenspan, Larry Summers, former Prime Minister David Cameron, Bob Hawke, Paul Keating, and Forbes’ Steve Forbes. She is also a frequent guest on BBC News China, delivering her skilled strategic acumen to global decision-making circles. In 2015, amidst the turmoil of China’s market fall, Shirley moderated a panel in New York City with Dr. Alan Greenspan, Dr. Larry Summers and Steve Forbes discussing the Chinese economy.
Shirley has been appointed as a Senior Visiting Fellow with the Institute of Global Affairs of the London School of Economics, an associate at the Lau China Institute with King’s College London, and Asia Fellow with the Ash Center of Harvard Kennedy School. She is the author of three books, including: The Rise of the RMB and the Fall of the Yen (人民币崛起与日元之殇)(2015), On China, By Ambassadors (百国大使谈中国) (2013) and Fearless Pursuit (无欲自芳菲) (2011). She has published multiple academic journal articles by the Lau China Institute, King’s College London and China Journal of Finance.
