Rico Hizon's Biography
Rico Hizon is the news anchor of BBC World News daily business and finance program Asia Business Report and general news based NewsDay live from Singapore and London. He is also a regular on BBC World Business Report as an Asian business correspondent. Rico is the only South East Asian to work for two of the world’s most prestigious global news networks CNBC Business News and BBC World News.
Drawing on over 25 years in broadcast journalism in The Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore, Rico is a highly seasoned moderator, helping to interpret and understand key developments around Asia as they unfold. With keen interest in Asia’s booming economies and geo-political issues, and with a keen eye on the latest trends from the movers and shakers in the business world, Rico reports on the latest political and social issues from the people who make the news.
Rico has interviewed personalities in the financial, political and sporting worlds – from Microsoft’s Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, Air Asia’s Tony Fernandes, Virgin’s Sir Richard Branson, billionaire Warren Buffet and top hedge fund managers George Soros and Mark Mobius.
Rico is a multi-award-winning broadcast journalist. In 2012 he garnered the prestigious Rotary Club of Manila, Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award, and in 2009 he was awarded La Sallian Achievement Awardee for Global Journalism. In 2008, Bank of the Philippine Islands recognised Rico for bringing honour and recognition to the Philippines with the BPinoy Award.
