Nigel Topping's Biography

Nigel Topping is one of the world’s foremost experts on sustainability and environmental protection. He is a sought-after keynote speaker with more than three decades of experience as an environmentalist and is passionate about conservation policies. He firmly believes that making small changes in our everyday lives can significantly impact the planet.

In early 2020, Nigel was appointed the UK’s High-Level Champion for Climate Action by the Prime Minister, setting out an international treaty to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In this role, he works closely with governments and nations, supporting the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Nigel is perhaps best known as the CEO of We Mean Business, where he served for over five years, calling for cooperation among collaboration partners to work on global warming. Nigel is a climate change expert with experience in sustainable development and has operated as a member of several organisations. He served as an Ambassador for Leaders Quest, a Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Director of CDP and as Group Executive of Supply Chain and Change Management of TMD Friction. Nigel is also a former Director of Operations at BBA Group and former Senior Consultant and Engineering Consultant of Manufacturing Systems at Lucas Industries and Lucas Engineering and Systems, respectively.

Nigel is a trusted sustainability consultant who has held many advisory roles, including on the advisory board of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment. He is a representative of the Energy Transitions Commission, vital to the inception of numerous cooperative projects, including Business for Nature, Science Based Targets, and the Global Commons Alliance. Nigel is also a former Dartington Hall Trust and London Pensions Fund Authority member.

Nigel is a leading authority in environmental protection, working tirelessly to promote sustainability awareness. As a speaker, he has spoken at various global events, including TED and TEDx, sharing insights on how small changes can make a big difference. He’s also given presentations on how businesses can reduce their environmental impact, motivating people and organisations to take action in making our planet a more sustainable place.
