Mike Leavitt's Biography
Mike Leavitt is the former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and former Governor of Utah. Mike is a politician, diplomat, businessman, consultant and philanthropist.
Prior to serving under George W. Bush, Mike developed a successful career in insurance and later as a consultant. He is now Chairman of Leavitt Partners, a consultancy business providing healthcare intelligence. Leavitt Partners is assisting with the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act often referred to as ‘ObamaCare’.
Mike’s expertise in the healthcare industry is well known. During his time as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Mike managed a $750 billion budget and implemented fundamental changes to the US healthcare system such as the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Programme. The programme provides 43 million seniors with a new prescription drug benefit.
Mike has been awarded the China Public Health Award by the Chinese government for his diplomatic services in healthcare. This is the first time the award has ever been given to a foreign government official.
