Maryam Nemazee's Biography
Maryam Nemazee has a unique global news experience, which combines an in-depth knowledge of business news with international politics. Throughout her career, Maryam has interviewed some of the world’s top political and business leaders, including former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Paul Volcker, OPEC Secretary General Abdalla Salem El-Badri, and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde. She currently reports for Al Jazeera English in London, as a presenter on the flagship-programme Newshour.
Previsously, Maryam was a London-based anchor with Bloomberg Television, presenting on all the main programmes, conducting exclusive interviews and real-time analysis of breaking news affecting global markets. Maryam covered major events from the field, including the World Economic Forum in Davos; as well as taking charge of Bloomberg’s extensive coverage of the European debt crisis from Brussels.
Maryam also was there for the election of the first socialist President in France for nearly two decades – anchoring and reporting from Paris. That same year, Maryam was in New York reporting on the US election, and reported and fronted a programme from the Middle East on Islamic Finance.
Prior to this, Maryam spent four and a half years in the Middle East with Aljazeera English, and was one of the line-up of anchors on air on the first day of broadcasting by the pioneering new channel. During her time at AJE, Maryam covered stories such as the Israel- Palestinian conflict and Iran’s nuclear negotiations, working in the company’s global headquarters in the Middle East, in the US and in Asia.
