Mark P. Mills's Biography

Mark P. Mills is a physicist, a technology researcher, author, and entrepreneur. He is best known for his work in the field of advanced technologies, including energy technologies, robotics, artificial intelligence, and transportation technologies. He is also known for his analysis and insights into critical minerals and their supply and price impacts in the pursuit of alternative energy and electric vehicles.

He began his career in the tech industry, working as a semiconductor engineer and later in fiber optics and missile guidance. He later transitioned into nuclear energy and technology policy, working in President Reagan’s White House Science Office, and then research and consulting, where he gained a reputation as a leading expert in the field of advanced technologies. In this role, he has worked with a number of major tech companies and venture capital firms, helping them to identify and invest in cutting-edge technologies. He served as the interim CEO of a lithium-ion battery company, and as a founding Chairman/CTO of a sensor tech company helping take it public in an IPO.

In addition to his work as a researcher and consultant, Mills is also an accomplished author. He has written four books including “The Cloud Revolution,” which explores the first new infrastructure in a century, the Cloud, and why the conventional wisdom on how technology will change the future is wrong, and “Work in the Age of Robots,” which focuses on the benefits of the emerging age of useful robots and automation. He also writes regularly for publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, TechCrunch, the Financial Times, City Journal, and numerous others.

Mark has founded a number of startups in the field of advanced technologies, and is a co-founding partner in venture fund that focuses on software and AI-based tools for the energy sector. He also served as an advisor and board member of a number of tech companies, and testified numerous times before the U.S. Congress. He hosts ‘The Last Optimist’ podcast which explores the technologies and players that will be responsible for inventing our future.
