Mark England's Biography
Mark England is the most successful Chef de Mission in British Olympic history and one of Great Britain’s leading sports administrators having been involved in UK sport for over 35 years. He is a popular keynote speaker, discussing themes such as leadership, belonging, and embracing equality, diversity and inclusion in high-performing teams.
Since 2001, he has worked for the British Olympic Association (BOA) as Director of Sport Services, and has attended the last 10 Olympic/Olympic Winter Games in a senior leadership capacity. He was Chef de Mission for Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and steered the team to their most successful performance for over a century. Team GB became the first ever nation to win more medals after hosting a home Olympic Games, having matched the medal success of 2012. He continued in his role as Chef de Mission for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which again matched the medal success of 2012. In 2022, Mark led Team England to their most successful medal return ever at the Commonweath Games in Birmingham. He will also lead Team GB at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Mark sits on the International Olympic Committee Coordination Commission for the Olympic Games, as an expert advisor. In 2016, Mark received an OBE for his services to sport, and he was awarded the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Sport’ Award at the 2021 British Sport Journalism Awards, following the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
