Jonah Berger's Biography

Jonah Berger is a bestselling author, professor, speaker, consultant and LinkedIn Influencer with nearly two decades of experience as an expert in viral marketing, change, and word of mouth. He is a prominent international keynote speaker interested in social influence, psychology and marketing.

Jonah is a tenured marketing professor at Wharton School, the private business school of the University of Pennsylvania.   He also offers advice and consultation to various companies in the development stage. As a globally recognised marketing pioneer, he has consulted for big corporations like Nike, AppleAmazon, Google, 3M and GE. He also worked with Bill and Melinda Gates to hone the Gates Foundation message.

Jonah is a world-renowned author who has sold over a million books in more than 35 countries. Catalyst (2020) presents a revolutionary approach to change and offers solutions to overcome resistance, and explores the factors that hinder change. Invisible Influence (2016) is a New York TimesWashington Post, and Wall Street Journal bestseller that offers a deep dive into how our behaviour is inconspicuously affected by others. Jonah first appeared on the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller, Amazon Best Books and Audible Best Audiobook lists with Contagious (2013), an in-depth analysis on why specific ideas and projects become popular. How Ideas Spread (2014) is a digital course that explores the science of social epidemics, and uses information from social science research to provide tools needed to identify and foster ideas that last. It is one of the most popular and highly-rated courses at Warton University. 

As a critically acclaimed author and writer with over 50 published academic journals, Jonah’s work has been featured in preeminent publications such as Harvard Business ReviewWall Street Journal and The New York Times. Jonah is an innovator in his field and has received many accolades and awards including The American Marketing Association’s Top 5 Most Productive Researchers in Marketing, a Contribution to Consumer Research award from The Association for Consumer Research, and a Distinguished Scientific Contributions to Consumer Psychology reward from The Society for Consumer Psychology. His research has appeared in New York Times annual Year in Ideas list multiple times, and he has been named one of the most creative people by Fast Company magazine.

Jonah achieved a PhD in marketing from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business in 2007, and a BA in Human Judgment and Decision Making from Standford University.

Jonah has keynoted over 100 conferences worldwide at Cannes Lions and SXSW events as an influential global speaker. He is sought-after for his keynote talks, in-depth knowledge and insight into topics related to marketing, natural language processing influence and consumer behaviour.
