Ian Botham's Biography
Sir Ian Botham OBE is an internationally recognised personality who has, at various times in his career, been a professional footballer, cricketer, charity fundraiser and popular television commentator.
Sir Ian is remembered as the best all-rounder that English and World cricket has ever seen. He was the first man to score a century and take ten wickets in the same match and has featured every year since his retirement in the Wisden best ever World XI. Since his retirement from cricket, Sir Ian has continued his involvement in the game joining the commentary team for Sky Sports cricket, as a columnist for the Daily Mirror and as President of the Professional Cricketers Association.
Ian was awarded the OBE for his services to cricket and charity in 1992 and awarded a knighthood in 2008. Sir Ian’s famous charity walks have secured his place in the nation’s heart. As President of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research he is determined to beat childhood leukaemia, and the chances of surviving Leukaemia now has risen from 20% to 80% largely as a result of the £10m that Sir Ian has raised. He is a Laureus Academy member and also a brand ambassador for Jaguar, Nike and Shredded Wheat.
