Herta von Stiegel's Biography

Herta von Stiegel has over 25 years of international management, finance and board level experience. As CEO of Ariya Capital, Herta is leading the firm in building clean and renewable energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa as well as creating sustainable agricultural investment opportunities. The firm advises multi-national clients such as Gazprom and Nestle on their clean energy strategies and sustainability policies. Herta represented Ariya Capital as well as Camco International at the UNFCCC COP 17 in Durban; she regularly advises African governments on energy policy and writes on the subject.

During her 17 years in banking, Herta held senior positions at Citibank, Rabobank, JP Morgan and AIG in London and New York. Until 2005, she was managing director at AIG Financial Products, where she had a leading position in the investment banking division with net revenues in excess of $800 million. In 2006, she joined the board of Camco International, a publicly listed global clean energy developer with significant operations in China, the US and Africa, where she chaired the audit committee for four years and until December 2012 served on the remuneration, audit and nominations committees.

Herta is an experienced board member and chair, who has several non-executive board appointments ; including as the first independent chairman of the CHAPS Clearing Company Ltd, the primary UK whole-sale sterling clearer with settlements in excess of £70 trillion per annum, and Opportunity International, a global micro-finance organisation with multiple financial services subsidiaries, and as former chair and governing board member of The Committee of 200 Foundation, the global organization of pre-eminent entrepreneurs and corporate leaders dedicated to the advancement of women’s leadership in business.
