Graham Fry's Biography

Sir Graham Fry was British Ambassador to Japan from 2004 to 2008 and High Commissioner in Malaysia from 1998 to 2001, before retiring from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 2008.

Graham graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University and joined the FCO in 1972. Following language courses at the University of Sheffield and Kamakura he became 2nd Secretary at the British Embassy in Japan in 1974. Other foreign service appointments included working at the Paris Embassy and the role of Director, North Asia and Pacific of the FCO.

A fluent Japanese speaker, Graham lived in Japan for 12 years. He now maintains his connection with the country by advising Japanese companies, writing articles and lecturing in Japan.
