Derek Brower's Biography
Dr. Derek Brower is a leading commentator and journalist specialising in global oil and gas politics.
Derek is editor-at-large of Petroleum Economist (formerly editor) and a frequent writer for The Economist. He has written for the Times, The Guardian and a range of other newspapers. He works as an advisor for Petroleum Policy Intelligence and is a frequent speaker at conferences and private briefings.
Derek has spent 15 years travelling in and out of the key oil-producing regions of the world, often focusing on resource-related conflict. He has reported extensively from Africa and the Middle East, from Somalia to Iraq, and covered the uprising against Gaddafi in Libya. He is also a specialist on OPEC, including Saudi oil policy.
He lived in Russia and has reported from across the FSU. He covered the demise of Yukos and the rise of Putin’s energy state. He lived in Canada covering the growth of the oil sands. He has written extensively about unconventional oil and gas in North America, and their impact on global oil and gas markets.
