Anika Molesworth's Biography
Dr Anika Molesworth is a farmer, scientist and widely considered a thought-leader on the future of food. She is an author and keynote speaker on sustainability and climate change.
Anika is dedicated to raising awareness of climate change and promoting actions to mitigate emissions. Her interest in agricultural resilience was prompted by witnessing a decade-long drought on her family’s sheep farm in New South Wales, Australia. She began a career in building resilience in fragile farming systems and aims to promote and advocate for sustainable agriculture and vibrant rural communities.
As a young female farmer tackling the world’s biggest challenges, Anika Molesworth is smashing the status-quo and inspiring thousands through engaging and empowering conversations and actions. Her infectious optimism and inspiring message have attracted the attention of global political leaders.
Her debut book, ‘Our Sunburnt Country‘, won the Royal Societies of Australia and New Zealand Writer’s Award for Outstanding Writing on Social Change. In the book, Anika explores the causes of – and the solutions to – the extreme weather that was killing her land and her livelihood. She outlines how we can protect our land, our food and our future, it is within our grasp.
Anika established knowledge-sharing platform, Climate Wise Agriculture, on climate change in global food systems, and helped establish national network of 8,000 farmers championing climate change solutions, Farmers for Climate Action.
Anika has received several notable awards and accolades for her inspiring work. In 2022, she was named Australian Geographic’s Young Conservationist of the Year, and recognised in the Top 100 Green Power Players list. She received the Emily Hensley Award for self-discipline, integrity, compassion and contribution to the wider community in 2020. In 2019, Anika was named a Future Shaper by InStyle and Audi, and a Women of Influence by the Australian Financial Review.
Other awards include; Green Globe Awards Young Sustainability Champion (2018); NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Award for Agricultural Innovation (2018); 350.org Heroes of a Low-Carbon Economy Youth Champion (2018); Young Australian of the Year NSW Finalist (2017); NSW Young Achiever Award for Environment and Sustainability (2017); and Young Farmer of the Year (2015).
Her education includes a Bachelor of Science specializing in Agribusiness, a Master of Sustainable Agriculture, and a PhD with the Centre for Regional and Rural Futures.
