Andrew Strauss's Biography
Andrew Strauss is Director of English Cricket, where he is responsible for the long-term strategy of the England men’s cricket team. With a reputation for gritty and intelligent leadership, he talks about how to create and share a vision, build trust and encourage change.
Andrew was one of only 3 England Captains ever to successfully lead England to Ashes victories home and away. He played 100 Tests, captaining England in 50 of them and leading his side to number 1 position in the World. He also made over 100 ODI appearances as both a player and Captain.
Despite arriving late on the international scene (following time working in the City), Andrew made the best of his talent in order to become one of the very best international batsmen in the world. In 2009 he was the leading international run scorer worldwide. During his career, he scored a total of over 7,000 Test runs and 21 Test centuries, taking the second spot in the all-time rankings of England players. He is also the England player who has taken more catches than any other.
In 2009 he was nominated for “BBC Sports Personality of the Year” and was granted the “Freedom of the City of London”.
