Aisling Bea's Biography
Aisling Bea is an actress, producer, writer and one of the most exciting stand-up comedians based in the UK whose unique brand of humour has won her fans worldwide. She is always looking to push boundaries and challenge herself as a public speaker and comedian, and she never fails to entertain audiences with her sharp wit and engaging storytelling.
Since 2019, Aisling has been the head writer, executive producer and star of the Channel 4 series This Way Up, a comedy-drama following the life of a woman rebuilding her life as she recovers from a psychological breakdown. The same year, she also began starring in the Netflix comedy-drama Living with Yourself.
Aisling became a rising star of the Irish comedy scene and soon began appearing on television shows. She’s made appearances on numerous shows like Have I Got News for You, QI, Taskmaster, The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, The Last Leg, A League of Their Own, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and 8 Out of 10 Cats where she has been team captain since 2016.
Along with Sara Pascoe, she is a co-host of the comedic talk show What’s Normal? on BBC Radio 2. Aisling is a go-to for television sitcoms, having featured in shows such as Trollied, Finding Joy, The Delivery Man, Dead Boss and Cardinal Burns. She’s also dipped her toes into crime dramas with roles in Hard Sun and The Fall.
In addition to her acting and comedic prowess, Aisling has lent her talents as a voice actress to the animated series Amphibia, the Irish children’s television show The Roy Files, BBC Radio 4’s The Architects and the video games Soul Sacrifice and Assassin’s Creed III.
Initially aiming to get a breakthrough as a dramatic actress, Aisling began working in theatre before pivoting to stand-up comedy. As a recent newcomer, she took home the Gilded Balloon, So You Think You’re Funny Award in 2012. She also holds a British Comedy and BAFTA awards for Best Female TV Comic and Breakthrough Talent, respectively.
