Soros tells Germany: lead or leave the Eurozone

George Soros, the financier famous for making billions from the UK’s exit from the ERM, has warned Germany that it holds the future of the European currency zone in its hands. Speaking to the Financial Times, he said:  “Either throw in your fate with the rest of Europe, take the risk of sinking or swimming together, or leave the euro, because if you have left, the problems of the eurozone would get better.” His warning follows the ECB’s pledge to “unlimited” purchases of Eurozone sovereign bonds so protect Italian and Spanish borrowing rates, a commitment which has caused consternation in Germany.
