Mary King: An Olympic inspiration
Congratulations to Team GB’s equestrian eventing team who have scooped silver at Greenwich Park in London. The team, consisting of Nicola Wilson, William Fox-Pitt, Kristina Cook, Mary King and Zara Phillips, did fantastically, being only narrowly beaten by their German rivals.
Although Zara Phillips, as the Queen’s granddaughter, is the most recognizable to most people, Mary King is an Olympic legend. She has not only competed in five previous Olympic Games but, having broken her neck in a riding accident in 2001, she has battled back to the top of the three-day eventing circuit. Her determination to return to the high-risk sport is proof of her incredible fortitude and bravery.
Good luck to Mary and her team mates in the individual event!
