David Hockney's landscapes
Yesterday some of the Chartwell team visited ‘The Bigger Picture’ – David Hockney’s exhibition of landscapes at the Royal Academy. The accent is on the rush of spring, marked by bright greens and the creamy and transient hawthorn blossom which Hockney rushes to capture in a whirr of activity he calls Action Week. It is a wonderful journey through the landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds and highly recommended. The HD digital films juxtaposing the same views in different seasons are compelling. His ipad images draw on the elements of fantastic colour which exist even in winter landscapes so that the images are still just about recognisable. Go now, and get a sense of what we are about to experience for real.
