Writing for City A.M., Dr John Hulsman, a leading expert on global political risk issues, looked at the disturbing similarities between the supposedly unsinkable pre-1914 world, and the Asia of today.

Referring to the tensions are brewing in the seas around China, John warns that “1914 reminds us that sometimes mini-crises ignite powder kegs beneath them.”

Describing Barack Obama’s America as Edwardian Britain incarnate, China fitting the bill as the Kaiser’s Germany, and comparing Prime Minister Abe’s Japan as a Third Republic France, John argues “that the almost exact correlation between the structural worlds of 1914 and 2014…[means] alarm bells really ought to be ringing.”
