Victor Gao shares his reflections of Deng Xiaoping

In a recent interview for the BBC World Service’s Witness series, Victor Gao, Beijing-based geopolitical analyst, discussed the life of Deng Xiaoping, former leader of the People’s Republic of China.

Reflecting on his role as Deng Xiaoping’s translator, Victor shared his memories of the man who engineered China’s economic reform and died on 19 February, 1997.
