Noreena Hertz hosts UCL’s Campaign Launch – ‘How Will Society Survive Into The 22nd Century?’

Expert speaker and ITV Economics’ Editor, Noreena Hertz, hosted the launch of UCL’s funding campaign. The target is one of the most ambitious ever seen in the UK’s higher education sector, with only Oxford and Cambridge raising larger levels of philanthropic funding through their campaigns. Noreena was delighted to take part in the event, as a graduate and honorary professor at UCL.

This lively, interactive event ‘How Will Society Survive Into The 22nd Century’ featured UCL’s most distinguished thinkers and opinion-formers debating the biggest challenges to come for our society in the next 100 years, including global health, human rights, equality and climate change.

In her opening keynote presentation, Noreena praised UCL as a home for radical thinkers and its continued success as a leader of the academic world in vital research and teaching areas.

The event, hosted by Noreena and UCL alumna, featured leading academics discussing the key issues live on stage.

Panelists included:

  • Dr Kevin Fong – UCL Centre for Space Medicine, and science presenter and broadcaster
  • Professor Lucie Green – UCL Department for Space and Climate Physics, and first woman presenter of The Sky At Night
  • Professor John Hardy – UCL Institute of Neurology, and first UK winner of the Breakthrough Prize for his research into dementia
  • Professor Philippe Sands – Faculty of Laws, and international human rights expert
  • Professor Henrietta L Moore – Director of the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity and social anthropologist
