Timothy Snyder Speaker Profile:
Born on August 18th of 1969 in southwestern Ohio to veterinarian Estel-Eugene and his wife Christine Snyder, Timothy Snyder graduated 10 miles south of Dayton from Centerville High School. Snyder is a very dedicated historian and author, and is widely considered to be a true modern day philosopher. In the realm of history, he specializes in the historical events that took place and involve central and eastern Europe, particularly in relation to the Holocaust. Along the side of being an active and essential member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Committee on Conscience of the United States Holocause Memorial Museum, Snyder is also the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and a Permanent Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. From 1991 to 1994, he participated as a Marshall Scholar at Balliol College in Oxford, England. In 1997, Snyder received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from Brown University, and then achieved his Doctor of Philosophy in Modern History soon after. One of the most influential American historians and public intellectuals overall, he speaks five and reads ten European languages, in which most of his literature is the topic of. In 2010, Snyder authored a book titled Bloodlands. The book has won twelve awards, including a Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Leipzig Award for European Understanding, the Emerson Prize in the Humanities, and the Hannah Arendt Prize in Political Thought. It has also been translated into 33 different languages, was a bestseller in six countries, and was named in 12 book-of-the-year lists.
