Sheryl Sandberg Speaker Profile:
Born into a Jewish family in Washington, D.C. in 1969 to Joel and Adele Sandberg, Sheryl Sandberg is the eldest of three children. She was sophomore class president, a member of the senior class executive board, and participated in the National Honor Society at North Miami Beach High School. Sandberg graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1991 and was also awarded the John H. Williams Prize for the top graduating student in economics. While she was attending Harvard, she co-founded an organization called Women in Economics and Government. After writing her thesis with her mentor Larry Summers, she began a position at the World Bank as his research assisstant, working for almost a full year on projects for health in India regarding issues with AIDS, leprosy, and blindness. After graduating from Harvard and working for a year, she attended Harvard Business School and earned her MBA in 1995, again at the top of her class, earning her a fellowship. She is currently the Chief Operational Officer for the social media website Facebook, managing sales, marketing, business development, and human resources, as well as communications and public policy.
She is the author of books such as Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy (2017). She also wrote Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead (2013) and Lean In for Graduates: Find Your First Job, Negotiate Your Salary, and Own Who You Are (2014)
