Kofi Annan speaker

Kofi Annan

Accra, Ghana

Secretary-General, United Nations (1997-2006)

Awarded the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize

UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria (2012-present)

Our Comment

"Kofi Annan is probably the world’s most famous diplomat, having been at the helm of the UN for almost a decade, at a time of several conflicts - in Iraq, Sudan and the Middle East to name but a few. When he was, jointly with the UN, awarded the Nobel Prize in 2001, he was praised for “bringing new life to the organisation”."
