Expert on macroeconomic policy & forecasting, the rise of Asia, population ageing, the economics of climate change
Principal, Llewellyn Consulting
Former Senior Economic Policy Advisor, Lehman Brothers
We really can’t thank John sufficiently for coming to the Phoenix dinner. It was a privilege for us, as the many effusive calls and messages I have received testify. Not only was the address scholarly, it was also fascinating. I realise that it was – and is – the product of years of deep thinking about the issues allied to insightful observations of the world John has encountered. It was commented that, in a real sense, John was ‘on call’ throughout the whole evening – including the pleasant rounding-off interlude in the hotel library – and, if I may say so, his considered replies to the many questions were invariably stimulating.
Dr. John Llewellyn is a principal at Llewellyn Consulting, where he specialises in macroeconomics and the economics of climate change.
Before co-founding Llewellyn Consulting, John was Global Chief Economist, and then Senior Economic Policy Advisor, at Lehman Brothers. This followed 17 years at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, where variously he was Head of International Forecasting and Policy Analysis, editor of the OECD Economic Outlook, Deputy Director for Social Affairs, Manpower and Education, and finally Chef de Cabinet to the Secretary-General.
Prior to that he spent nearly ten years at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Cambridge, and he was also a Fellow of St. John’s College. In 1974 he was appointed Assistant Director of Research in the Faculty of Economics.
John has published widely, including on international economic policy-making and co-ordination; economic forecasting; the rise of Asia; climate change; population ageing; and the war in Iraq.
