Craig Pirrong's Biography
Craig Pirrong is an American academic, specialising in the study of derivates, commodity markets, and energy prices. He is also an expert on financial trading infrastructure and regulation, notably relating to central clearing and exchanges
Since 2003, Craig has been Professor of Finance at the Bauer College of Business, University of Houston, and Energy Markets Director at the Global Energy Management Institute, where his research focuses on the economics of derivatives markets and risk management. He also studies commodity markets, the relation between market fundamentals and commodity price dynamics and the implications of this relationship for the pricing of commodity derivatives. His recent research has investigated the role of commodity trading firms, and the systemic importance of these firms.
He is recognised as one of the leading scholars in the economics of financial trading infrastructure, especially central clearing, and has written and commented extensively on the regulation of derivatives markets in the post-Crisis period.
