Cherie Blair is a world-renowned human rights barrister, and a prominent advocate for a number of benevolent causes.
In 2005, Forbes named Cherie as one of the five most powerful women in the world, and the intervening years have done little to diminish her standing. Rarely far from the public eye, she has used the platform afforded her by her husband, Tony Blair’s decade-long tenure as Prime Minister to promote a number of humanitarian causes, with a specific emphasis on women’s rights, both in a personal and a professional context.
Cherie’s determination to help people overcome inequality and prejudice has seen her campaign the world over. In 2008, she created The Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, an international organisation dedicated to creating equal opportunities for women worldwide. She has also represented the UK charities Barnardo’s, SCOPE and Breast Cancer Care abroad, taken part in campaigns administrated by international charities such as the Loomba Trust, and is currently a member of UNICEF’s Global Task Force on Water.
